Copyright is a form of Intangible asset which serves few rights and power to the creators of literature, art, music, sound recordings, cinematographed films and broadcasts. The copyright registration takes place under the Copyright Act. It is the legal right provided exclusively to the person who created it to print, copy, perform, etc. a piece of original work, such as a book, a song or a computer program. The creator may permit other to use his creation on payment of consideration or otherwise, as he thinks fit. Using a creation in respect of which copyright is obtained by creator, without his /her prior permission is prohibited and on doing so, creator can file a law suit against the person who infringes the right of content creator.
On registration of Copyright of a creation, it serves as evidence or public record regarding the exclusive right of Creator, subject to certain conditions.
It is protected for a limited period of time. The general rule is that copyright lasts for 60 years. In the case of original literary, dramatic, musical and artistic works the 60-year period is counted from the year following the death of the author.
